In Sunday's 2025 final in Ottawa, Canada, the United States of America won their second consecutive IIHF Ice Hockey U20 Men's World Championship by defeating Finland 4-3 in overtime.
At the end of the regular season, the score was 3-3. In overtime, Teddy Stiga scored the game-winning goal, giving the United States its seventh World Junior Hockey Championship trophy. Seven minutes into the play, Finland took the lead when Jesse Kiiskinen put the puck in the back of the goal. They were aiming for their sixth gold medal.
However, the United States got back to square in five minutes when James Hagens scored off a rebound after Petteri Rimpinen saved the ball.

According to hockey headlines reports, Finland retook the lead just over a minute later on a goal by Tuomas Uronen, putting them ahead 2-1 to start the second half. Before the United States could get back on equal ground at the end of the second quarter, the Finns extended their advantage (3-1) five minutes in.
After a goal by Brandon Svoboda in the 38th minute sparked a comeback by the United States, Cole Hutson scored the equalizer (3-3) with under 30 seconds remaining in the second session. After normal time ended, the score remained tied, but neither team could score in the third, forcing a sudden-death 3-on-3 overtime.
It took eight minutes of overtime for Stiga to break the deadlock, but he defeated the goalie to give the United States the 4-3 win.
